Course Description:

The scope of this training requires cadre to introduce, develop, and hone students mental and physical skills required to graduate their follow-on PJ Indoctrination Course. The two-week course requires cadre to provide student-athlete centered mentoring/coaching in running, calisthenics, swimming, water confidence, PJ/CRO history, roles and responsibilities/career field duties/mission, life saving, team building skills, sports nutrition, exercise physiology, and psychological enhancement training. Students must come prepared to learn the techniques presented which will help establish a solid foundation for successful graduation in the follow-on course.


As part of the Pararescue (PJ- 1T2X1) application process for entry into the PJ AF Specialty and to obtain a quota(s) into the PJ Development Course and follow-on PJ pipeline training, all students NPS/GTEPs, retrainees, ARC, AF prior service, and sister service prior service) must have successfully completed/past the Physical Ability and Stamina Test (PAST), during BMT pre-accession for GTEPs, at home unit for retrainee and ARC personnel, and Air Force recruiting station/MEPS for all prior service personnel.

The PAST criteria/standards must be administered as written. The PJ Physical Abilities and Stamina Test (PAST) will be administered during in-processing into the course. All students must pass the PAST for continuation in the PJ Development Course.

Students must be US citizens, be able to obtain a Secret clearance, volunteer for hazardous duty (e.g., fixed and rotary wing flying operations, military combat diver (SCUBA), military parachuting, tactical/urban operations, combat trauma emergency care, mountain climbing etc.), score a minimum of 44 on the general category of the ASVAB test (sister service equivalent), and must pass flying Class III physical with eye restriction as prescribed for AF flying, parachute, and marine diving duty.

All students attending PJ Development under TDY-to-School orders must have had their physicals reviewed and stamped by HQ AETC/SGPS (US Army will only recognize the AETC/SG stamp).

Admin Instructions:
d. Each enlisted class will have a Combat Rescue Officer (CRO) student as their Team Leader (TL) throughout the PJ Development and follow-on PJ Indoctrination Courses training.

e. Enlisted NCOs will be designated by their DOR as inter-team Assistant Team Leaders (ATLs) and can be called upon to act/become the classes Team Leader.

f. All SrA and NCOs should come prepared to assist and /or to lead and manage their class during


Special Notes:

ATTENTION ALL MPFs/Unit TMs: PJ Development graduation dates are now aligned with PJ Indoctrination Course start dates. Students will remain on Lackland AFB to attend PJ Indoctrination Course upon graduation of the PJ Development Course. They will not return to home unit as there will be no training day gap (other than weekends) between Development Course graduation and Indoctrination Course start date. All students attending training on TDY-to-school orders need to reflect attendance to both PJ Development and PJ Indoctrination Courses.
