Afternoon,

I just had a couple of questions in regards to sleeping problems in the special operations community.

-I understand these are high stress jobs, is sleep apnea or insomnia a common thing seen in operators?

- More importantly (for me), is it possible to crosstrain if you are diagnosed with sleep apnea or insomnia?

-If not, aside from getting as much sleep as possible are there any suggestions on how to counter it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

A clinical diagnosis of snoring, observed apneas and/or unexplained causes for insomnia will likely require a medical waiver.

Consider also snoring is significant noise that gives away a concealed position when traveling overland or sitting in a long term observation point.

Consider also sleep apnea and insomnia are two different medical conditions. Sleep apnea is most connected to obstructed airway whereas insomnia is most connected to a result of stress, life events or habits that disrupt sleep.

Sleep apnea has strong causal connection to being overweight whereas insomnia has many potential causals that include mental health disorders, a slew of medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), overactive thyroid, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease).
